Study Programme

The Postgraduate Programme (MSc) “Educational Sciences: Special Education” includes the following three (3) specialisations:

  • Special Education and Inclusive Practice
  • Learning Difficulties
  • Language Development, Language Pathology and Educational Intervention

a) First specialisation: “Special Education and Inclusive Practice”

This specialisation is aimed at professionals from various disciplines and seeks to provide expertise in issues related to the assessment of special educational needs, the design and implementation of differentiated instruction programmes for individuals with disabilities and/or special educational needs, the development of social skills for individuals with disabilities and/or special educational needs, the management of behavioural difficulties, and the application of effective educational practices in inclusive education.

b) Second specialisation: “Learning Difficulties”

This specialisation is aimed at individuals from different academic backgrounds and seeks to provide expertise in the education of individuals with Learning Difficulties. In this context, the structure and content of the programme focus on issues specifically related to Learning Difficulties, such as theoretical approaches to the assessment and treatment of learning difficulties, specialised topics of identification, assessment and differential diagnosis, as well as the design and implementation of effective teaching interventions, strategies and curriculum adaptations, based on findings from international scientific research.

c) Third specialisation: “Language Development, Language Pathology and Educational Intervention”

This specialisation concerns professionals from various disciplines and aims primarily at providing expertise both in the study of language development and in issues of language pathology and relevant educational interventions. For this reason, particular emphasis is placed on issues related to the structural mechanisms of language development, the neurobiological bases of language functions, language pathology, as well as contemporary educational approaches for addressing these challenges.

(The “a” and “b” specialisations are currently active, while the “c” has not yet been activated.)

To obtain the Master’s Degree, students are required to successfully attend and pass a series of postgraduate courses. The programme corresponds to a total of 120 ECTS credits.
